Charles Frechon was born on December 7th, 1968 in Rouen. He is the great grandson of Charles Frechon, a famous impressionist painter of the Rouen School, and the nephew of Michel Frechon, an artist especially known for his charcoal drawings. Hence, he grew up surrounded by numerous works of art.
At the age of 17, he began to make a living from his drawings and paintings which he sold on the marketplace and outside cafés in Rouen. A year later, he rented his first appartment which was also his atelier. This was also the time of his first commissions.
In 1988, he met Laurence, the woman who would become his wife and the mother of his three children. They moved to Dordogne in 1991. Charles Frechon did not have any formal education in art until the day he met with Herdin Ratke, a former student of Salvadore Dali who had worked on the Figueras museum project. This meeting was paramount since Herdin taught him the different technics of the Dutch and Flemish Old Masters as well as of the Italians mannierists. His teaching was complemented by trips to Italy and by his participating in the atelier work of Herdin.
After the accidental death of his wife, Charles Frechon came back to Normandy with his three children and he settled in Saint Aubin sur mer. There, he has created an atelier and since then has steadily exhibited in the region, winning different awards. He began to be noticed by several art collectors and he is regularly commissioned to paint mostly portraits. He also teaches about fifteen students at home.
In 2005, he met Sylvie who had studied art history. She now lives with his family and this is the beginning of a new life encompassing new artistic projets with a close collaboration.
